Become an Influencer: Join the Fall 2022 Library Advisory Board
Members of the Library Advisory Board, a group of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff members, provide improvement advice and feedback to the library.
What’s in it for you:
- Influence the shape of library services, resources, and spaces for you and your peers
- Get an extra reference for your resume; enhance your university service
- Learn about what the library offers and connect with others
What’s expected of members:
- Provide insights into study, research, and library use habits
- Share ideas and input on the design and implementation of library services
Actively participate in three board meetings (September, October, November)
- Locations: B.D. Owens Library Room 250 and/or Zoom
Results from 2021-2022 Library Advisory Board recommendations:
- Evaluated equipment purchases (fans, watch chargers, etc.)
- Updated equipment page with links to item availability in catalog
- Purchased partitions to reduce noise transfer in silent study areas
- Added a desk to the third floor (staffed by student employees) to help with noise mitigation
- Moved room reservation station to Library Services desk for immediate assistance with the reservation process
- Extended advance time to reserve a room
- Extended library hours around finals and Friday afternoons
- Provided Study Break before winter break
- Added full-text links to materials from library-provided sources in Google Scholar
- Updated citing pages with contact information and clarified wording on Turabian/Chicago page
- Added a “Books & Media” search option to the library's homepage
- Streamlined Teaching Resources library guide
- Changed all library guides to left-side navigation
- Produced Spring semester faculty newsletter (will provide ongoing newsletter each semester)
- Reached out to Sodexo about a vending machine with more food choices
- Reached out to Facility Services about adding more plants to the library building
- Contacted IT about adding an additional color printer and creating a webpage with campus labs, requirements, hours, available equipment, etc.
