Admitted First-Year Student FAQs

What’s the process for transferring AP/IB or dual enrollment credits?

  • All AP/IB and Dual Credit must be transferred to the Northwest Office of Admission by Aug 1.
  • Dual Credit: The Office of Admissions must receive an official college transcript from the college or university granting the credit. Northwest's Office of Admissions must receive the transcript in order to receive credit.
  • AP Credit: Advanced Placement (AP) Tests are administered by your high school, and all official test scores from the testing agency should be sent to the Office of Admissions to receive credit.
  • IB Credit: Official score reports must be received directly from the International Baccalaureate Organization.

How do I apply for housing?

  • You may sign up for housing beginning on Nov. 1. This application will put you in line to select your preferred housing at the end of March/first of April.
  • You may fill out the housing application using the Northwest Housing Portal

What are the room and roommate selection processes like?

Selecting a room

You will receive an email with your specific selection date and time before your selection date. Once that date and time arrive, you can select your preferred housing.

Finding a roommate

Once your application is complete, you will gain access to the roommate module in the housing portal. From there, students can make profiles and complete questionnaires to meet potential roommates. Students can begin locking in roommate matches beginning Jan. 15.

When do I register for classes?

For first-time freshmen, our professional advising/coaching team will schedule your classes for your first semester at Northwest. You will have a chance to review and request changes when you attend SOAR. Factors taken into consideration when creating students’ schedules are:

  • Department recommendations for specific majors
  • Test scores for placement
  • Dual/AP credit or other earned hours (Do not forget to send official transcripts before SOAR.)
  • If students are planning to live in a Living Learning Community (LLC)
