Northwest Missouri State University maintains its rich history and traditions while continuously evolving to meet the needs of students and the communities it serves. Established in 1905, the institution has grown steadily into a state-assisted, comprehensive university that today offers more than 200 degree programs in 11 academic schools and departments while serving about 10,000 students who come from throughout the world.
Inaugural traditions include the presidential chain-of-office, the ceremonial mace and the regalia commonly worn during academic ceremonies.
Since its beginning as the Fifth District Normal School, and through four name changes, Northwest has maintained a high standard of excellence, values and service.
Since Frank Deerwester's appointment as the institution's first president, each of the men responsible for leading Northwest have left an imprint and steered it to the University it is today.
The historic 19th-century structure was built for the family of its original property owner and has served as a home for Northwest's presidents and their families since the institution's founding in 1905.
