VidGrid video software will be sunsetting (no longer available) in Spring of 2026. In preparation for this event, all VidGrid users must download any videos they would like to keep by December 31, 2025. Studio, a new video software, is now available in Canvas to use in creating new videos. (Do not create any new videos in VidGrid. Use Studio moving forward to create new videos.)
Studio is part of Canvas and can be found in the left-hand navigation bar. You will be able to re-upload your videos from VidGrid using Studio relink in course sites or for web pages. Below are directions on how to download videos from VidGrid and how to add them back into your course using Studio and how to create a new video using Studio.
PLEASE NOTE: When you add the video to Studio, the software will automatically create a new closed captioning.
We suggest that as you download your videos, name them related to the course site or usage. Record these names and the course and location for the link for reupload using the attached spreadsheet.
Faculty will need to open Studio once from the global navigation menu to become a Canvas Studio user.
In Canvas, users can embed media from Canvas Studio in any feature area with the Rich Content Editor, including Assignments, Discussions, and Pages. Media is embedded using the Studio LTI tool. You can select existing media and upload new media through the Studio LTI tool.
The Studio icon should be visible to everyone in the Global Navigation menu. Only faculty will see Studio in the Course Navigation menu. When an instructor clicks on Studio in the course nav they will see videos that are part of that course, this is the expected functionality.
When faculty are adding videos into their course via the RCE they will have access to their entire Studio Video library. Similarly, students will have access to their entire video library via the RCE anywhere they have access to the RCE, ie. submitting assignments, responding to discussions, etc.
