What is Dual Credit?

Dual Credit is designed for high school students to get a jumpstart on their college degree by completing college courses at a significantly discounted rate.  Dual Credit courses are offered in partner high schools with instructors that are approved to teach our college courses.  Online Dual Credit courses are available to high school students that don't have qualified instructors in their high schools.  Below, find out about instructor qualifications, courses offered, and more about our textbook and laptop program for Dual Credit students.

Missouri transfer course guarantee

Core 42 MOTRANSFER Logo

The goal of the CORE 42 is to facilitate the seamless transfer of academic credits. The completion of the CORE 42 at any public institution of higher education will transfer to every other public institution of higher education in the state and substitute for the receiving institution’s general education requirement. Individual courses that comprise the CORE 42 are guaranteed to transfer one-to-one among all public (and participating independent) colleges and universities in Missouri.  All courses that are part of the CORE 42 will have the above logo embedded in the course description within the University catalog as well as next to the course in the Course information tab of this Dual Credit page.

Additional information: https://dhewd.mo.gov/core42.php

Please refer to the specific course syllabus for grading standards. Upon completion of your course, you will utilize Parchment to send your transcript. Dual Credit program at Northwest Missouri State University is accredited by the National Alliance for Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.

Higher education institutions in the United States utilize nongovernmental peer-review accreditation as an essential component of external review for quality assurance and quality improvement of educational programs. Since 2004, NACEP has served as a national accrediting body for concurrent enrollment partnership programs.

Accreditation is awarded to programs after a comprehensive peer review by a team of experienced representatives from NACEP-accredited concurrent enrollment programs. Applicants conduct a self-study and prepare an accreditation application with evidence documenting how the college or university implements NACEP’s national standards for program quality in the areas of partnerships, faculty, assessment, curriculum, student, and program evaluation.

Course drop and withdrawal

Drop: if a dual credit student is taking multiple courses at Northwest and they want to leave one of the courses, they would need to initiate a drop.

Withdraw: if a dual credit student would like to drop all their courses, or they are only in one course and they would like to leave it, that is considered withdrawing from the University.

A dual credit student may withdraw from a semester-long course before the 80% point or until the last day of fall semester finals for yearlong courses. For available dates, visit Registrar Calendars and Dates. In the event of an on-time withdraw, all tuition charges will be removed except for a $50 processing fee. When a student withdraws, a ‘W' grade will be recorded on the student's Northwest transcript for each course. If a student drops a course but remains enrolled in at least one course, the tuition will be removed and the processing fee will not be assessed.

A change to a dual credit student's high school schedule does not automatically change their status at Northwest Missouri State University

If a dual credit student wants to drop or withdraw, that process begins with the student contacting the Dual Credit office at 660.562.1491 or dualcr@nwmissouri.edu.

Dual credit students taking regular summer courses, will follow the published refund guidelines found at https://www.nwmissouri.edu/studentaccounts/financialdates.htm
