Math and success add up at Northwest. Learn key skillsets through the mathematics program and watch all the doors open to your future. The possibilities are infinite!

Why Study Mathematics at Northwest

Learning mathematics is much more than numbers. You're gaining knowledge from many understandings of different fields. To major in mathematics is to develop mastery of intellectual tools that will enrich your life. Students can major in mathematics or get an emphasis in data science. Read more below about what our mathematics programs have to offer!

Pick your path

Mathematics - B.A. or B.S.

Students pursuing the mathematics major will recognize, represent and use patterns to creatively address problems in a wide variety of settings. At Northwest, students will see and explore the beauty and utility of mathematics from a diverse faculty of highly qualified and nationally recognized mathematicians.

Data Science - B.A. or B.S.

Mathematics with an emphasis in data science is the study of mathematical tools to analyze data for the purposes of modeling and prediction. Students learn to extract and clean data, use the model for prediction and forecasting, also to summarize and describe values.

Minor Programs

A minor in mathematics (calculus-based) or (non-calculus based) is available. The calculus-based minor focuses on the foundations of calculus and linear algebra. For the non-calculus based, students will learn about the foundations of discrete math or graph theory, linear algebra or transition to proofs and college geometry and algebra. Both minors require the completion of at least 22 credit hours.
