While the CompTIA CySA+ certification is relatively new, launching in 2017, it is already a highly respected, in-demand certification for mid-level cybersecurity professionals.  In fact, it appears on the U.S. Department of Defense’s approved list to meet Directive 8570.01-M requirements. It also complies with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) regulations and is considered a baseline certification for five profession categories.

The CySA+ certification will show employers that you have the knowledge and skills needed to mitigate risk and combat threats that may attack networks or devices through continuous security monitoring. It is the only mid-level certification of its kind—testing both knowledge and hands-on practical ability.

Most entry-level cybersecurity jobs do not require coding skills. However, as you gain experience and move up in your cybersecurity career into mid-and upper-level positions, you may find it necessary to have some knowledge of coding.

Demand for CySA+ certified professionals is predicted to be extremely high due to the increased frequency of cyberattacks. Qualified analysts are needed to come up with innovative solutions to secure networks and prevent hackers from stealing critical data.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts that the information security analyst field will grow by 33% through 2030—over four times the average growth rate  expected across all occupations.

According to the BLS, the median annual salary for information security analysts is $102,600 in the United States. Still, the salary of a professional holding CySA+ certification can vary based on experience and location—with some making up to $119,588 per year. No matter where you are or how much experience you currently have, earning the CySA+ will open the door to career advancement opportunities and in-demand positions.

Your certification is valid for three years and will need to be renewed at the end of this period. To ensure that your skills remain up to date, you must earn 60 CEUs during each three-year renewal period, pass the CySA+ exam again or a qualifying higher-level industry certification exam, or complete CertMaster CE training courses.

Common positions for CySA+ certified professionals include security operations (SOC) analyst, vulnerability analyst, information security analyst, cybersecurity specialist, threat intelligence analyst, security engineer, and cybersecurity analyst.
