Northwest Missouri State University’s Concert Band will perform its next fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.

The ensemble will perform works chosen in collaboration with student conductors to prepare them for student teaching experiences, including Andrew Boysen’s “The Vikings,” Randall Standridge’s “The Rowan Tree,” Robert Shelton’s “As Twilight Falls,” Jorge Vargas’s “Blue Comet” and Richard Saucedo’s “Fanfare and Homage.”

The concert also will feature include the premiere of a work dedicated to the ensemble and composed by Dr. William Sutton, the conductor of the Concert Band and an assistant professor of music at Northwest.

“Our purpose remains to provide students from across campus, regardless of major, a way to participate in a musical endeavor,” Sutton said. “I want students to continue playing their instruments and support the arts throughout their lives after Northwest.”

Founded in 2021, the Concert Band features brass, woodwind, percussion and string bass instruments. It performs music from a variety of time periods and styles, from historically significant works to new band compositions and premieres.

There are no auditions to join the ensemble, which is open to all Northwest students and employees as well as residents of the community. The ensemble presents two concerts during both the fall and spring semesters.
