April 15, 2022 | By Patrick Glenn, communication assistant

The Northwest Missouri State University Wind Symphony will perform its spring concert Wednesday, April 20, with Smithville High School’s Wind Ensemble.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.

Conducted by Northwest alumni Tom Brockman and Dalton Haberman, the Smithville High School Wind Ensemble will perform Roland F. Seitz’s “March Grandioso,” Randall Standridge’s “Providence” and Rossano Galante’s “Mt. Everest.”

The Northwest Wind Symphony will perform the overture of Franz von Suppé’s “Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna,” arranged by Robert Foster; Richard Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral,” arranged by Lucien Cailliet; and Alfred Reed’s “Armenian Dances, Part 1.”

Northwest Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Caleb Pickering also will perform a movement from Ney Rosauro’s “Concerto for Marimba and Symphonic Band.”

To conclude the performance, Smithville High School Wind Ensemble senior band members will join the Northwest Wind Symphony to play Henry Fillmore’s “Crosley March.”

The Northwest Wind Symphony, conducted by Artist-in-Residence John Bell, is the University’s premier wind ensemble and performs the best standard selections from all styles and periods, in addition to recent repertoire for wind bands.

Brockman earned a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music in 2004 and a master’s degree in education leadership in 2010, both from Northwest, and has served as director of bands in the Smithville R-II School District since 2012. Haberman earned his bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education at Northwest in 2017 and serves as associate director of bands for the Smithville School District.
