Actor and author Tim Mooney will return to Northwest Missouri State University for an evening performance described as “a wild romp through Moliere’s most hilarious monologues.”
Mooney will perform “Moliere Than Thou” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Studio Theatre at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. The performance is free and open to the public.
“This opportunity may be of particular interest to any students studying Shakespeare, French, French history, theater history, those interested in theater or acting, or anyone who just wants to have a fun night at the theater,” said Katheryn Bilbo, an associate professor of theatre at Northwest.
In the course of his 80-minute one-man play, Mooney seduces his audience with a complexity of language that is a sensual delight. Parading through the best loved plays of France’s history, “Molière Than Thou” reinvigorates Renaissance theater, the court of Louis XIV and the vision that generated some of the most beloved plays of all time.
Mooney’s work with Molière goes well beyond his celebrated, manic performance of 10 monologues. He has rewritten 15 of Molière’s plays in their entirety, bringing a dexterity of English speech to the works. For more information about Mooney and his work, visit www.timmooneyrep.com.
Funding support for the performance is provided through the Missouri Arts Council and Northwest’s College of Arts and Sciences.
