Brian Swink, an instructor of mathematics and statistics at Northwest Missouri State University, recently was elected president of the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM).
Swink, who served as MCTM’s president-elect during the last two years, helped pivot the organization’s 2020 conference to a virtual event and oversaw the 2021 conference’s return to an in-person format. His responsibilities as president include overseeing executive board meetings and coordinating the organization’s calendar of events.
MCTM is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, which is a not-for profit organization devoted to supporting and enhancing mathematics teaching and learning at all levels of education.
In 2019, Swink received MCTM’s Outstanding Mathematics Educator Award for post-secondary educators.
He joined the Northwest faculty in 2015. His academic interests include common core implementation, standards for mathematical practice and mathematical discourse as a means for social learning. He has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in elementary mathematics, both from Northwest.
