Charles Mayfield, the director of financial assistance at Northwest Missouri State University, recently was designated a Certified Financial Aid Administrator (CFAA) by the Certified Financial Aid Administrator Commission.

As one of 100 recipients nationwide to earn the CFAA certification, Mayfield demonstrated industry-related experience, passed a comprehensive knowledge exam and affirmed his commitment to the standards for ethical behavior within the financial aid profession.

A CFAA credential also validates Mayfield has an overall understanding of 12 knowledge domains and competencies and can apply this knowledge in the workplace. Additionally, Mayfield helps ensure Title IV aid is administered ethically and effectively.

The CFAA Commission is an independent certifying body of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and sets policy and standards related to the CFAA program.

Mayfield was named Northwest’s director of financial assistance in 2015 and is responsible for all aspects of the student financial assistance program. He provides research, analytics, projections and program proposals for federal, state and institutional aid funds to maximize student support.

In 2017, the Missouri Association of Financial Aid Professionals presented its Missouri Award to Mayfield in recognition of his contributions to the field of financial aid and the association.
