Dr. Mary Shepherd, professor of mathematics and statistics at Northwest Missouri State University, recently was elected treasurer of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM).
As treasurer, Shepherd will be responsible for the association’s financial affairs and record keeping.
AWM is a non-profit organization founded in 1971. With more than 3,500 members from various countries throughout the world, the organization is a leading society for women in mathematical sciences.
Shepherd joined the Northwest faculty in 2001. Her academic interests include differential geometry, reading mathematics and undergraduate mathematics education.
She has master’s and doctorate degrees in mathematics from Washington University. She also earned a Bachelor of Music at Missouri State University and her Master of Accountancy at the University of Oklahoma.
