Northwest Presidential Scholar

Each year, Northwest recognizes 8 freshman students who have exemplified outstanding academic effort. This select group of students each receive $10,000 per academic year, and the award is renewable based on meeting eligibility requirements. Northwest is currently seeking donors to assist in the continued funding and recruitment of our best and brightest students.

Savanna Baker

For me, being a Presidential Scholar means being a part of a cohort of academically successful, driven and high-achieving students who are setting the bar at our university, organizations, and future careers.

Being a Presidential Scholar has enabled me to attend Northwest and graduate debt free.

Combined with the 36 credit hours I brought in from high school, earning the Presidential Scholarship enabled me to use the scholarship all four years towards a double major in Emergency Management and Geographic Information Science with an emphasis in Emergency Management Response. This dual major has also benefited me in my education and my pursuit of graduate school in the combined arena.

The Presidential Scholarship draws in the best and brightest students who would only propel and benefit the University. This scholarship makes Northwest competitive compared to other state schools that offer full-ride academic scholarships. Having continued funds for these students would accelerate the name, image and academic excellence of Northwest.

As a music education major, I am involved in many ensembles and organizations surrounding music and teaching. By receiving the Presidential Scholarship, I am able to worry less about financial burdens and focus more on achieving high academics and being a part of organizations I love!
