The Foods and Nutrition Lab will provide a new and updated kitchen to introduce students to the principles of nutrition, meal planning, food preparation and culinary skills. Through hands-on experiences, students will learn about the importance of balanced diets, safe food handling, kitchen equipment usage and various cooking techniques. This lab will help students to develop practical life skills while exploring the world of nutrition and foods.
The impact of dietitians is wide-ranging and encompasses various aspects of public health, clinical care, education, and advocacy. Their expertise in nutrition and dietary management contributes to healthier individuals and communities, as well as the prevention and management of chronic diseases. Northwest’s nutrition program prepares students for careers in dietetics, as well as other nutrition and food service fields. Whether the goal is to become a registered dietician, address hunger issues in the community, work in the restaurant industry, or all of the above; Northwest’s Foods & Nutrition Lab will provide students with profession-based learning opportunities that simulate the professional tasks ahead of them.
