Piano Scholarships

to attend Northwest Missouri State University after high school graduation

Objectives

To encourage piano students to study works by J.S. Bach and members of his extended family - both solo and collaborative works for piano, harpsicord, or organ. To provide students the experience of performing on a University campus and hear other students play similar repertoire. To provide students feedback, reflections, and advice on their playing from University faculty. To encourage continued study and participation over multiple years, students will receive a certificate of participation.

Auditions

Audition by VIDEO submission. Details in the application link (see below).

Application Deadline

Applications must be submitted on or before August 15, 2024.

Entry Fee

$45.00 per student (non-refundable)

Eligibility

Students in grades 4 through 12 (and age 19 or younger)

Repertoire

Any work [or movement(s) from a work] for keyboard by J. S. Bach or member of his extended family (music any member of a previous or later generation of the Bach family). Works for harpischord and organ, as well as collaborative works (trio sonatas, works for keyboard and other instrument(s) and/or voice, etc.) are HIGHLY encouraged. The University has a double manual harpsichord and a 17-rank pipe organ. NO transcriptions by later composers (Liszt, Bussoni, etc.) allowed.

Time Limitations

Any work or movement(s) of a work are welcome - up to 15 minutes.

Entrant results and feedback

All participants will receive a video response/critique of their performance from the festival judges. Select students will be invited to perform in an Honors Recital on the Northwest Missouri State University campus.

Memorization

It is HIGHLY recommended that performances be from memory – except for piano duets, 2-piano works, or collaborative works such as Sonatas for Piano and Violin, Flute and Piano, (etc) [which are encouraged]. ( Important : do NOT take repeats.)

Prizes

A $75 prize may be awarded for outstanding performances of a solo or collaborative works [collaborative works HIGHLY encouraged] (works for piano duet, 2-pianos, piano/organ/harpsicord and another instrument(s), etc.)

Scheduling

The Honors Recital schedule will be based on the performance times that you submit. Please be sure timings are accurate!
