Learning and Teaching Center: Workshop on Leveraging AI for Academic Research

This two-hour workshop introduces academic researchers to a suite of AI tools that can streamline the research process, from initial idea generation to exploring complex datasets and building literature reviews. Attendees will gain practical insights into how tools like Claude, Perplexity, and ChatGPT can transform their workflows, alongside emerging platforms like Magic School, Elicit, and Research Rabbit. Participants will be guided through hands-on demonstrations of powerful AI platforms tailored for academic research. The session will focus on how to effectively use these tools during the early phases of research, including: Initial Exploration and Idea Generation How Claude, Perplexity, and ChatGPT can assist in synthesizing ideas, brainstorming topics, and generating research questions; Advanced Literature Reviews and Data Exploration Utilizing Elicit for sourcing evidence and Research Rabbit for discovering and mapping scholarly articles; AI-Enhanced Workflows An introduction to Magic School for improving research efficiency and collaboration. By the end of the session, participants will understand how to integrate AI tools into the early stages of their research. Gain hands-on experience with multiple AI platforms designed for academic use. Develop strategies to use AI ethically and effectively. This workshop empowers researchers to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-assisted research, offering actionable skills to improve efficiency and innovation in their scholarly pursuits.
