The Behavioral Sciences Association hosts the annual event to raise awareness of mental illnesses while promoting mental health and well-being.
The event features an art exhibit, speakers and exercise rooms with yoga and circuit training sessions. Attendees also may participate in a paint-and-sip activity, which costs $10 for materials.
All proceeds raised during the event will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
The scheduled speakers and topics are as follows:
- 3 p.m. – Dr. Shay Malone, assistant vice president of diversity and inclusion: Mental health in relation to diversity and inclusion
- 3:45 p.m. – Dr. Jacob Tengelsen, assistant professor of psychology: Human sexuality, its complexities and potentialities
- 4 p.m. – Northwest Peer Wellness Coaches: Mental health services available to students, an overview of C.A.L.M.
- 5 p.m. – Dr. Amy Hillard, a Northwest assistant professor of psychology: Mental health stigma in media
- 5:20 p.m. – Latonya Davis, coordinator of diversity and inclusion: A mental health journey
- 5:30 p.m. – Leslie Ackman, Maryville community member: Mental health in relation to art and the benefits of art journaling
- 6:20 p.m. – Elizabeth Motazedi, Student Senate President: A mental health journey
- 6:45 p.m. – Capt. Austin Hann, Nodaway County Sheriff's Department: The impacts of mental health on law enforcement and the department's cooperation with the Family Guidance Center
