After teaching high school math for two years, he began his career with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in 1993. In March 2016 Brad became the Director of the Heartland Regional Field Office covering Illinois and Missouri. He had two early career stints with NASS in the Kentucky and Iowa field offices. Prior to taking over as Director of the Heartland Region, Brad spent 15 years in Washington, DC, with the last five as Chief of Staff. Brad also currently serves in the United States Army Reserve. His career began as a Private in 1987 with the Missouri Army National Guard and he is currently a Colonel assigned as an Operations Officer for the Training and Doctrine Command. In 2005 then Captain Summa deployed to Iraq and spent a year on a Military Transition Team in the Northwest region of the country.

Northwest / Community Involvement

• Active in my church, serving as Eucharistic Minister and past president of the Ladies Guild. 

• Director of Religious Education at our parish for over 10 years and taught 2nd grade.
• Served as an officer in local Community Club, providing activities throughout the year for area youth. 
• Support many local fundraising events for firemen and parks and recreation
• Member and volunteer for Northwest Missouri State University West Central Iowa Chapter
