What is the Fulbright?

The Fulbright offers opportunities for recent graduates and graduate students to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, or primary and secondary school teaching in over 140 countries. In additional to expanding your experiences, the Fulbright aims to promote culture exchange and mutual understanding through engagement in local community.

How to Apply

There are different types of Fulbright grants, and each has its own specifics for the application process. The study/research grants require a two-page project statement, one-page personal statement, three letters of recommendation, foreign-language evaluation (if needed), transcripts, and a letter of affiliation. Creative- or performing-arts applications, may have guidelines for additional materials you are allowed to submit. Study awards also require a separate application to the institution at which you would like to study. English Teaching Assistantships include a one-page grant statement, one-page personal statement, three letters of commendation, foreign-language evaluation (if needed), and transcripts.

Stories from Fulbright Recipients

	Sara Worsfold As a soccer player at Northwest, Sara Worsfold waited until after graduation to pursue her international interests. She put her elementary education degree to good use at Obchodná Akadémia in Žilina, Slovakia where she taught English for one year as Fulbright ETA.
	Kayla Etherton Following her study abroad semester in Costa Rica, Northwest graduate Kayla Etherton knew she wanted more international experience. She received a Fulbright ETA and put her bachelor's degrees in psychology and Spanish and her master's degree in TESOL to work in Hungary.
	Matthias McCurren Matthias McCurren graduated from Northwest with a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). He received a Fulbright ETA in 2018 and taught English at a university in northeastern Brazil.
