Two Bearcats earn pre-season All-Region honors
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State baseball team had two players selected to the 2013 National Collegiate Writers Association Division II preseason All-Region teams.
Junior Eric McGlauflin was selected to the first-team Central Region as a utility player after earning All-South Central Region honors in 2012. McGlauflin is coming off of a stellar sophomore campaign where he started in 46 games and carried a .387 batting average with 16 extra base hits and 30 RBIs. The junior finished fourth in the MIAA in batting average and on base percentage at .474 and was a Honorable Mention All-MIAA selection in 2012.
After finishing the 2012 season earning first-team All-MIAA honors in the outfield, junior Ryan Abernathy was selected to the preseason All-Central Region second-team. Abernathy is returning from his sophomore season where he had a .378 batting average after starting in 45 games. The junior stole 11 bases along with 20 extra base hits and slugged .505.
The Bearcats open up the 2013 season Feb. 8 against Arkansas-Monticello with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Northwest will host Nebraska-Kearney for their home opener Feb. 20 at Bearcat Field.
