Education Full Text Guide


Locate a Peer-Reviewed or Scholarly Article
Look for Articles on Your Topic from a Specific Date Limit a Search to a Specific Journal

Return to the Education Research Guide

Connect to the Education Full Text database:
  • From the Owens Library Home Page, click Search for Articles
  • Click E
  • Click Education Full Text (You may have to scroll down to see the title)

Look for articles on your topic:

  • If the words Advanced Search don't appear at the top of the screen, click [Advanced Search] in the blue left column
  • Click in the first box & type a word or phrase
    HINT: Enclose phrases in quotation marks--e.g., "learning disabilities"
  • Type any other terms you wish to connect with the Boolean operators and, or, & not in the second & third boxes
  • Click the appropriate Boolean operator(s), using the drop down arrows in front of the second & third boxes
  • Click [Start Button]
  • When your search results appear, click the icons shown below to view the options described:
    the article in html full text
    the article in pdf full text
    links to the article in another database or to information about the journal in the Owens Library Catalog
    (If you need help interpreting the Library Catalog record, use the Ask button at the top of this page)

NOTE: Not all of the icons will appear for every article and not all articles are available in a database or in the Library Catalog. If the article is not available via Owens Library, you can borrow it via Interlibrary Loan.

Look for articles on your topic from a specific date:

  • If the words Advanced Search don't appear at the top of the screen, click [Advanced Search] in the blue left column
  • Click in the first box & type a word or phrase
    HINT: Enclose phrases in quotation marks--e.g., "learning disabilities"
  • Type any other terms you wish to connect with the Boolean operators and, or, & not in the second & third boxes
  • Click the appropriate Boolean operator(s), using the drop down arrows in front of the second & third boxes
  • Enter dates for your subject in the the Limit Dates to: area (see picture below)

  • Click [Start Button]
  • When your search results appear, click the icons shown below to view the options described:

    the article in pdf full text
    links to the article in another database or to information about the journal in the Owens Library Catalog
    (If you need help interpreting the Library Catalog record, use the Ask button at the top of this page)

NOTE: Not all of the icons will appear for every article and not all articles are available in a database or in the Library Catalog. If the article is not available via Owens Library, you can borrow it via Interlibrary Loan.

Search by subject:
Education Full Text
  • Click [Thesaurus] in the blue left column
  • Click in the box and type your subject
  • Click [Start Button]
  • Once you have identified the subject you would like to search, either click the link to records for that subject to display results OR copy the exact subject heading and follow the directions below:
    • Click [Advanced Search] in blue left column
    • Paste or type your subject (exactly as it appeared in the Thesaurus) in the first box
    • Click the drop down arrow in the first As: box and click Subject(s)
    • Type any other words or phrases you wish to search for in the second and third boxes
    • Click the appropriate Boolean operator(s), using the drop down arrows in front of the second & third boxes
    • Click [Start Button]
  • When your search results appear, click the icons shown below to view the options described:

    the article in pdf full text
    links to the article in another database or to information about the journal in the Owens Library Catalog
    (If you need help interpreting the Library Catalog record, use the Ask button at the top of this page)

Print, e-mail, or save specific records in your search results:

  • Click the check box(es) next to the articles you choose to mark
  • Click [Get Marked Link] (bottom of screen) to view a list of marked records
  • Click [Print Email Save] in the blue left column
  • Select options to e-mail, print or save citations and available full text

Limit a search to a specific journal:
EXAMPLE: You want to find articles only in the Reading Improvement

  • If the words Advanced Search don't appear at the top of the screen, click [Advanced Search] in the blue left column
  • Enter the full title of the journal (e.g. Reading Improvement) in the first box
  • Click the drop down arrow in the first As: box and click Journal Name
  • You may enter other words or phrases in other boxes
  • Click [Start Button] to view results
  • Your search results will appear
  • When your search results appear, click the icons shown below to view the options described:
    the article in html full text
    the article in pdf full text
    links to the article in another database or to information about the journal in the Owens Library Catalog
    (If you need help interpreting the Library Catalog record, use the Ask button at the top of this page)

Find articles in a specific journal about a specific topic:
EXAMPLE: Find articles in the journal Educational Leadership about year round schools

  • If the words Advanced Search don't appear at the top of the screen, click [Advanced Search] in the blue left column
  • Enter the full title of the journal (e.g. Educational Leadership) in the first box
  • Click the drop down arrow in the first As: box click Journal Name
  • Click the drop down arrow in front of the second box & click and
  • Click in the second box & type year (Do not use this method to search for phrases)
  • Click the drop down arrow in front of the third box & click and
  • Click in the third box & type round (Do not use this method to search for phrases)
  • Click[Start Button] to view results
  • When your search results appear, click the icons shown below to view the options described:

    the article in pdf full text
    links to the article in another database or to information about the journal in the Owens Library Catalog
