Point of View in Periodicals
Some
periodicals (journals, magazines, newspapers) have a specific political
perspective. For example, what gets covered in a Liberal periodical
may not be expressed in a Conservative periodical, and vice versa. The
following examples may be helpful if a research assignment or project
requires analyzing a topic from one or more political perspectives.
Liberal Journals

Economy
and Society focuses on progressive political, economic, and social issues
in Europe and North America, Australasia and the Pacific Rim. This site requires
the user to register (for free) prior to accessing information. Once registered,
the site grants full access to every issue of this publication from 2000
to the present.

Look for Marxist, post-Marxist and other radical perspectives on issues
like the theory of state, class analysis, politics of gender, methodological
individualism and rational choice, and the future of capitalism and socialism.

journal. Access to individual articles through this site requires a subscription.

This
journal publishes information on political economy and the economic analysis
of contemporary societies from a Marxist perspective. Science and Society

Telos publishes articles that cover subjects such as: contemporary academia,
culture and religion in the United States, the Commonwealth of Independent
States, and Eastern Europe, using continental philosophy and focusing
on deconstruction, the Frankfurt school, and Foucault. Utilize the table
of contents of previous and current issues to view a few selected articles
online without a subscription.

slant, Cato covers public policy including Social security, monetary
and natural resources policies, and military spending. This site provides

American Prospect presents a moderate left-wing view on liberal
philosophy, politics and public life. This site has an archive of issues
from 1990 to the present. Users have full access to older issues, while

The Nation is one of the most openly left-wing publications
in existence. This publication contains articles that target ideological
opposites and covers a wide range of current issues. The site features
an index of issues from 1999 to the present. Selected articles are freely
available in full-text, while full access to all articles is limited to
subscribers.

Statesman Access

Readings focus on news and politics of greatest interest in
the United Kingdom. The New Statesman site has an archive that goes back
to 1995. A few full-text articles are available from the current issue,
but most require a subscription to view.

A Washington D.C. based magazine with a strong partisan focus
